What colour scheme are you?

Everyone has colours that they adore and detest, and most of the time, colour schemes within your home reflect this.

Your connection with a colour can be traced back to previous experiences, such as the colour of classrooms, what certain people have worn, or a favourite toy. If, as a child, you refused to leave the house without your favourite green teddybear, the chances are that you still love that colour. At the same time, childhood loathings influence your colour preferences; if your maths exercise book used to be dark red, your hatred of claret is understandable.

They say that at 3 months old, babies already show colour preferences, and generally children warm to the cooler colours on the spectrum such as green and blue. As you age, your favourite colour may change, but it’s not unusual for you to have preferred shade from childhood to adulthood. Colour psychologists assert that favourite colours can demonstrate a lot about a person, including aspects of your personality, your learning techniques, and how others perceive you. Who would have thought a favourite colour could mean so much!

We thought it’d be fun to talk about our favourite colours (we have several!) and how we’d put them into play in the home…

1. Gorgeous Grey

The colour of intelligence and formality, grey is a timeless shade with a reputation that doesn’t do it justice. We think grey is anything but dull and boring, and this lovely neutral bedroom is a perfect demonstration of its understated elegance. We also love deeper shades of the colour, such as dark slate grey or charcoal, which can bring a real depth and sophistication to your interior design. If you’re also a fan of grey, take a look at our selection of vertical blinds, from elegant shades of silver to bold black.

2. Forest Fresh

Green symbolises harmony, life and growth, making it a go-to shade for interior designers and decorators alike. Easy on the eye and perfect for any room, green is a great option for those that want to freshen up their home. If you’re reluctant to paint an entire room green, there are plenty of other options. Invest in some forest-coloured soft furnishings or lime ornaments, or opt for a window dressing that channels freshness and style – we have a brilliant selection of green vertical blinds… Take a look!

3. Mellow Yellow

Lively, bright and cheerful, what’s not to love about yellow? The lightest shade on the spectrum, it’s an uplifting colour with connotations of hope and laughter. It’s also said to inspire creativity, which makes it the perfect choice for a bedroom or study. We love the use of yellow in this bedroom – the cushions, runner and mirror are the perfect example of the effectiveness of flashes of colour.
